adidas the only fit for MLS?

In light of MLS Commissioner, Don Garber's recent comments regarding the hope for every team in Major League Soccer to have a kit sponsor, we are reminded of the exclusive kit, equipment and advertising partner, adidas.

During the 2010 State of the League, Garber hinted at the following:

"All but a handful of our teams have jersey front sponsors. We'll be announcing additional new sponsors probably during the next 30 to 45 days. Within the next year every one of our teams will likely have a jersey front sponsor."

A sponsor on every kit will undoubtedly increase revenues among clubs and increase competition for sponsorship deals. Where is the competition among an exclusive partner supplying every kit to all clubs?

Adidas' existing deal with Major League Soccer, which began in 2005, has been extended beginning in 2011 through the 2018 season. The league will continued be to lined with three stripes and [improved] versions of a flawed Jabulani match ball.

Though details of the deal have not been disclosed, it is estimated that the 8 year extension is worth more than $200 million - a significant increase over the previous 10 year, $150 million deal.

One question, how much is a deal with Nike worth?
